Are Caricature Artists The Assholes of the Art World?
Yes! Caricature artist are kinda the assholes of the art world. Their job is to exaggerate your features, contort your face while groups of spectators gawk at the entire affair. The outcome of their artistic endeavors usually is something that looks vaguely human.
GOAL: To venture to San Francisco's Fisherman's Wharf and get caricatures of myself drawn by every damn caricature artist in the vicinity. Afterwards, I’ll take a step back and give an artistic overview of this collective body of work that vary in "artistic interpretation." I want to see if these masters can draw "the true me," even if I tell them to include a series of ludicrous hobbies within my portrait. Through their work I want to find the core of my being.

Of course caricature is an interpretive art and getting one done in a tourist trap will of course invoke meaningless scenes.

Bad caricatures
Not ALL live caricaturists suck! You should watch the artist at work before you sit for them. A really good caricaturist can take your features and personality and create a drawing that IS the essence of you!

I am a theme park caricature artist, and part of the biggest caricature organization in the world, www.caricature.org . all of these sketches are bad. you schould do more research before you post this topic, i recommend looking up joe bluhm, Marlo Meekins, Jan ob de beeck, Court jones, Jason Seiler, Sean Gardner, and there are many many more great artist that will make it look just like you and exagerate your features at the same time. post your picture and i will draw a sketch of you and without a doubt make it look likw you.

I don't have a problem with fluff-pieces, which this is. Not particularly insightful, but not well-constructed either. It might have occurred to SOMEONE at Chron to run a photo of the subject's profile as a comparison, the byline photo is a bad angle to compare from. WORSE is the TERRIBLE WRITING and EDITING of the piece. A lot of non-sentences. #1: you make the inner-Fabio joke twice; #2:"those with chipmunk cheeks and play the accordion can.." is not correct, maybe "and who can play" or "with accordion skills", as it is it sounds like "Engrish" from some Asian airport sign. #3: "I look I ride the spacial bus", maybe I look LIKE I ride? Missing word destroys the sentence. #4: "This can't possible be", maybe you mean POSSIBLY? #5: "the mystery of the horses mystery"?? #6: too mercifully short for errors. Seriously though, this is very bad writing, my English teachers would be appalled (as am I) that you got a job as a professional writer with sloppy work like this. Shame on your editor
